Educator Discounts
Full-time teachers are invited to purchase $30 discounted tickets, subject to availability. A current school ID (elementary through high school; college/university) must be presented at the time of ticket pick-up. Renée Fleming
Renée Fleming is one of the most highly acclaimed singers of our time, performing on the stages of the world’s great opera houses and concert halls. A 2023 Kennedy Center Honoree, winner of five Grammy awards and the US National Medal of Arts, she has sung for momentous occasions from the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony to the Super Bowl. In 2023, the World Health Organization appointed her as Goodwill Ambassador for Arts and Health.
Renée’s anthology, Music and Mind: Harnessing the Arts for Health and Wellness, was published this spring. A prominent advocate for research at the intersection of arts, health, and neuroscience, as Artistic Advisor to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Renée launched the first ongoing collaboration between America’s national cultural center and its largest health research institute, the National Institutes of Health. She created her own program called Music and the Mind, which she has presented in more than 60 cities around the world.
Anna Deavere Smith
Anna Deavere Smith is credited with having created a new form of theater. Her plays, which focus on contemporary issues from multiple points of view, are composed of interview excerpts. President Obama awarded Smith the National Endowment for the Humanities Medal. She’s the recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship, several Obie Awards, and the George Polk Career Award in Journalism. She was a runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize and nominated for two Tony Awards. Plays and films based on them include Fires in the Mirror and Twilight: Los Angeles, Let Me Down Easy, and Notes from the Field about the school-to-prison pipeline. Television and film acting includes: Inventing Anna, The West Wing, Nurse Jackie, Black-ish, Philadelphia, The American President, and Rachel Getting Married. She’s a professor at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She has several honorary doctorate degrees including those from Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Spelman College and Juilliard and Oxford.
