Melissa McMillan – 5:45pm
Park Avenue Artists’ Spotlight

Melissa McMillan is a singer/songwriter based in Brooklyn, NY, riding the lines between jazz, R&B, and pop. Aside from her own project, Melissa is also a co-founder of Femme Jam, an all-women led monthly jam session in Brooklyn and a proud member of the Resistance Revival Chorus, a chorus of over 60 women and non-binary singers and activists who come together to sing protest songs in the spirit of collective joy and resistance. Most recently, Melissa can be seen touring as a background vocalist with Hozier.

Claudia Acuña – 2:30pm
Family Programming – Lyric Langua: A Celebration of Multilingual Music

Claudia Acuña is a Latin Grammy© nominee, Grammy© nominee, and NPR Tiny Desk Concert artist who was born in Santiago and raised in Concepcion. She was inspired as a child to perform a variety of music, including folk, pop, and opera. In 1995, Acuña moved to New York City and began performing at jam sessions, clubs, and at the famous Jazz Gallery. Acuña is the spokesperson for World Vision Chile, an international Christian relief and development organization that specializes in child-focused development programs.

Sateen is a twenty year old artist from Paris. She grew up in Paris for the first half of her life then moved to LA. She has been passionate about music for her whole life, and has been releasing music for two years now. Sateen currently studies music and psychology at NYU. She loves to mix instruments, sounds from nature, and different inspirations from various genres to create her own unique sound.

Amil is a NYC-based DJ who draws inspiration from a vast array of musical influences. Channeling his fascination with meditative and distant sounds, his DJ sets both evoke and celebrate the complexity of human emotion.

Debbie Deane – 5:45pm
Park Avenue Artists’ Spotlight

Brooklyn born and raised Debbie Deane carries the jazz-infused, piano-fired torch of Carole King and Laura Nyro. A passionate songwriter with a penchant for jazz-flavored chords and soulful vocals, she is back with a new album Red Ruby Stars from ModernIcon/Ropeadope Records. Please join us at the Lobby Stage with Debbie Deane on piano and vocals with Jim Whitney on bass. Deane’s songs have been featured on TV’s “Party of Five,” and on Jennifer Love Hewitt’s album Let’s Go Bang.

Raga Kids – 2:30pm
Family Programming – Lyric Langua: A Celebration of Multilingual Music

Featuring sitarist and singer Neel Murgai and tabla player Roshni Samlal, Raga Kids plays original songs that teach kids of all ages about Indian classical music, the elements, and more. Sing along with Indian solfege and percussion syllables, and listen deeply to the sonorous sounds and intricate rhythms of sitar and tabla. Raga Kids songs draw from Indian and American classical and folk music. Raga Kids has been performing concerts and teaching in NYC schools and private group classes since 2012.

Civic Alliances Series

Spotlighting the incredible talents of public housing residents from across our city, this vibrant event features an array of performances, ranging from the powerful verses of spoken word poetry to dynamic dance routines, soulful music, and captivating singing. The showcase provides a platform for residents to express their creativity, share their stories, and connect with a broader audience, celebrating the rich cultural diversity and artistic brilliance within NYCHA communities. The New York City Housing Authority and the Public Housing Community Fund proudly co-sponsor this program.

Daniel Kleederman – 7:30pm

A strikingly expressive guitar player and singer, Daniel Kleederman likes to journey – creating musical worlds, often by himself, a guitar, and a cassette player, that travel from tender lullaby to explosive psychedelia. Kleederman spent a near-decade playing throughout many musical scenes in New York, before becoming a collaborator, lead guitarist, and world traveler with musical powder keg Bartees Strange. He is set to release a full-length record later this year.

Jennifer Wharton’s Bonegasm – 5:45pm
Park Avenue Artists’ Spotlight

Jennifer Wharton is a prominent low brass player in NYC on Broadway and in the big band and recording world. Jennifer founded her trombone-powered jazz septet, Bonegasm, in 2017. She enlisted fellow trombonists John Fedchock, Nate Mayland and Alan Ferber, along with the rhythm section of pianist Michael Eckroth, bassist Evan Gregor and drummer Don Peretz. The music performed includes arrangements and originals the leader commissioned from prominent composers as well as members of the ensemble.

Afro-Andean Funk Musical Adventures from Peru – 2:30pm
Family Programming – Lyric Langua: A Celebration of Multilingual Music

Join us for a journey to South America with Afro-Andean Funk as we delve into the enchanting world of the Andes, bridging the gap between Afro and Indigenous cultures. Two-time Latin Grammy® nominated Peruvian vocalist Araceli Poma and American bassist Matt Geraghty perform original selections highlighting intricate Afro-Peruvian rhythms, powerful Afro-Peruvian traditional instruments and bilingual storytelling through music. ¡Anchay! i Vamos todos!

Nathan Dies is a multi instrumentalist, singer songwriter and producer from São Paulo, Brazil, currently based in Brooklyn, NY. They fuse their cultural background from acapela prayers to popular Brazilian music and early 2000’s pop to create an expressive mix of dreamy plastic synths with acoustic instruments.

Park Avenue Artists’ Spotlight

Canadian-born, Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, and musician Miranda Joan is currently on tour with The Killers and fresh from performances this summer with Kylie Minogue. Miranda co-hosts and co-founded Femme Jam (NYC’s first all-female led jam session); a community initiative to create a womxn-led space with an emphasis on female musicians that fosters inclusivity. For the past decade she has been a music mentor with youth who stutter at SAY: The Stuttering Association for the Young.

Family Programming – Lyric Langua: A Celebration of Multilingual Music

For 15 years, Jarana Beat musical director Sinuhé Padilla-Isunza has mined the musical traditions of his native Mexico and other Latin American countries in an ongoing search for a distinct style with roots, resulting in the creation of this unique musical soundscape. Their concerts become community experiences as they ask the audience to be part of the show with their own Jaranas, in what they call open fandangos. With contagious charm and good vibes, this band is capable of getting any audience on its feet!

A meticulous melodist and virtuosic player of various string instruments, JC Maillard is a Caribbean born, colorful musician and singer. Those who have seen him leading his “voodoo-rock” band Grand Baton with vocalist Lisa Fischer, heard the crystal tones evocative of the Middle East of his 8-string SazBass or the explosion of his flamenco guitar understand that he is a traveler of the sounds of the world, impassioned by harmony and trance.

DJ RAQX is a DJ, event producer, and educator from New York with Puerto Rican and German roots. Her music selection is heavily influenced by her hybrid cultures playing vinyl + digital sets exploring 90s NY house, latin deep cuts, with new club and reggaeton sounds. She’s been DJing and producing events in Brooklyn with @misschiefcollective for 5+ years as well as playing international shows in Mexico, Cuba and Puerto Rico. She has also taught DJ classes at Superior Elevation Dj school.

Celebrate Ramadan with Syrian-American rapper and poet Omar Offendum, who will be joined by Palestinian multi-instrumentalist Zafer Altawil for this very special performance experience that draws upon the hakawati traditions of the Levant, while still being firmly rooted in the stories and streets of NYC.

Thunderbird American Indian Dancers – 2:30pm
Family Programming – Lyric Langua: A Celebration of Multilingual Music

The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers was founded in 1963 by a group of ten Native American men and women, all New Yorkers, who were descended from Mohawk, Hopi, Winnebago and San Blas tribes. They founded the troupe to keep alive the traditions, songs and dances they had learned from their parents, and added to their repertoire from other Native Americans living in New York and some who were passing through. Within three or four years, they were traveling throughout the continental U.S., expanding and sharing their repertoire and gleaning new dances on the reservations.

Carriers – 8:00pm

Carriers are Curt Kiser from Cincinnati, Ohio, USA and whoever accompanies him. That community of collaborators includes members of The War on Drugs, Afghan Whigs, and The National. The sound is that of a classic songwriter surrounding his music with breezy, psychedelic textures. The lyrics are about universal themes, addressing love, patience, faith, and family with unvarnished sincerity. No cloak and dagger metaphors. No piss-takes. This is great music for a classic American roadtrip.
